In a disturbing incident captured on video, a group of sadhus faced a brutal assault by a mob in Purulia district, West Bengal. Following the incident, approximately 12 individuals have been arrested by the police. The video, which went viral on social media, depicted the sadhus allegedly being stripped and attacked by the mob.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the party’s IT Cell head, Amit Malviya, criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that being a Hindu in West Bengal has become a crime. BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato also met with the assaulted sadhus in Purulia district.

In a Palghar kind lynching, sadhus traveling to Gangasagar for Makar Sankranti were stripped and beaten by criminals affiliated with the ruling TMC.”
“In Mamata Banerjee’s regime, a terrorist like Shahjahan Sheikh gets state protection, and sadhus are being lynched. It is a crime to be a Hindu in West Bengal,” added Malviya.
As of the latest report, the TMC has not responded to Malviya’s statements or the alleged incident. Sheikh Shahjahan, a TMC strongman and local panchayat leader, is reported to be absconding since an attack on Directorate of Enforcement (ED) teams in North 24 Parganas district earlier. The ED officials, conducting raids in connection with an alleged ration scam, were assaulted, with two sustaining injuries. The TMC claims locals responded to provocation from the ED teams, while the BJP alleges a collapse of law and order in the state.
