MP: Six-year-old boy falls into 60-ft deep borewell in Rewa prompts swift rescue operation

Rewa/Madhya Pradesh: In a distressing incident in Madhya Pradesh, Rewa, a six-year-old child plunged into a 60-foot-deep borewell on Friday. The incident occurred in the Manika village area, approximately 90 kilometers from the district headquarters. Mayur, also known as Mayank, aged six, son of Vijay, an Adivasi, was playing with other children in a field around 5 p.m. when he accidentally fell into the open borewell. Upon receiving information about the incident, authorities were alerted by the family members.

Initial Response and Rescue Operation

Upon learning about the incident, a team of the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) was deployed into service to save the child who is stuck at a depth of around 60 feet, said Rewa collector Pratibha Pal. Oxygen is being supplied inside through a pipe, and a CCTV camera too was lowered to monitor the boy’s condition, but the camera could not reach him because of some obstruction, Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Sonkar said. Unseasonal rains also affected the rescue operation, Sonkar added.

It is important to note that the child, trapped 60 feet below the ground, is said to be moving inside the borewell. As part of the rescue operation, an oxygen cylinder was lowered into the ditch, and a camera has been deployed to monitor the child’s movements closely.
