In the presentation of the interim budget for 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of four pivotal segments – the poor, women, youth, and farmers. Sitharaman asserted that the government is dedicated to fostering all-encompassing, pervasive, and inclusive development.
The Finance Minister emphasized the government’s vision to make India ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, focusing on improving people’s capabilities and empowering them. She highlighted the imperative to prioritize the welfare of four major segments, referring to them as “garib” (the poor), “mahilayen” (women), “yuva” (the youth), and “annadata” (the farmer). Sitharaman emphasized that their needs, aspirations, and welfare are the government’s highest priority.
Sitharaman articulated the government’s vision for India to become ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. This aspirational goal aligns with the commitment to improving people’s capabilities and empowering them. The Finance Minister emphasized that the progress of the country is intrinsically linked to the progress of these four segments, and their empowerment and well-being will propel the nation forward.
Highlighting a paradigm shift, Sitharaman noted that social justice, which was once considered a political slogan, is now an effective and necessary governance model for the government. The saturation approach, covering all eligible individuals, is seen as a comprehensive achievement of social justice. This approach, according to Sitharaman, embodies secularism in action, reduces corruption, prevents nepotism, and ensures transparency in delivering benefits to all eligible citizens.
Sitharaman underscored the government’s commitment to addressing systemic inequalities that have historically plagued society. The focus is on outcomes rather than outlays, ensuring that socio-economic transformation is achieved. The Finance Minister emphasized that resources are now distributed fairly, providing access to opportunities for all, regardless of their social standing.
