North Goa farm house massive explosion results in one custody; no casualties reported

Goa: In a sudden turn of events, a massive explosion occurred in a private farmhouse at Ansolem village in North Goa late Monday evening. According to the police, no casualty was reported but several houses near the farmhouse developed cracks due to the blast. Valpoi Police detained one person in connection with the explosion.

Valpoi police officials are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the storage of substantial quantities of explosives at the site. The blast not only demolished a warehouse full of these materials but also shook the nearby town of Valpoi, located about four kilometers away.

Preliminary findings suggest that gelatin explosives, commonly used in nearby stone crusher plants, were involved. Police are conducting detailed interrogation of the detained person, whose identity is currently unknown. The extensive investigation is set to continue on Tuesday, with the area cordoned off and forensic experts called in to assist.

Local MLA Deviya Rane has taken to social media platform X to assure residents that an FIR will be lodged against those responsible under the Explosives Substance Act. Rane’s message highlighted the absence of injuries from the incident and promised rigorous action following the investigation’s conclusion.

“This is to inform the people that we have received reports of a blast at Ansolem in Bhironda Panchayat, no casualties reported at the site,” Rane said.

“An FIR will be filed under the Explosives Substance Act, and a thorough investigation is underway. Stringent action will be taken once the investigation is concluded,” she added.

The incident has raised concerns over procurement and storage of explosive materials in residential areas. As the investigation progresses, authorities are determined to uncover how such dangerous amounts of explosives reached a civilian location and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
