Indore: In a heartbreaking incident, 18-year-old college student Madhav from Indore, Madhya Pradesh died of a fatal heart attack while attending coaching classes for the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) exam. The tragic incident, captured on the classroom CCTV camera, shows Madhav suddenly experiencing chest pain, fainting and ultimately losing the battle of life at a private hospital.

Madhav’s untimely demise has highlighted the worrying rise of ‘silent heart attacks’ in Indore. Silent heart attack is a condition where cardiac events occur without any obvious or recognizable symptoms, making early detection and intervention extremely challenging.

The CCTV footage revealed Madhav sitting among his classmates, appearing normal until he suddenly experiences discomfort and severe chest pain. In a matter of seconds, he collapses from his chair, leaving his friends shocked. Swiftly, his batch mates rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

The police have initiated an investigation, and the body has been sent to the district hospital after a post-mortem examination. This marks the fourth such incident in Indore recently, raising concerns about the occurrence of “silent heart attacks” among young individuals.

Recent reports indicate that this incident is responsible for at least four deaths in the city in a short period of time. The victims include a 55-year-old businessman who died of a heart attack while exercising and a 16-year-old schoolgirl who suffered a similar condition.

In a series of tragic incidents, a distinguished 53-year-old senior professor of IIT Kanpur also succumbed to a heart attack while delivering a lecture at an alumni event in December 2023. His sudden demise shocked the academic fraternity and once again underlined the silent but deadly threat posed by heart attacks.

The increasing incidence of these silent heart attacks has emphasized the urgent need for greater awareness and active preventive measures against such unexpected medical emergencies. This is a clear reminder that heart diseases are not limited to any specific age group and can affect anyone, at any time. As the city of Indore grapples with these unfortunate events, it highlights the larger issue of heart health in India and urges immediate attention and action.
