Prayagraj: Umesh Pal, the main witness of the famous Raju Pal murder case of Prayagraj, UP, was shot dead on Friday evening. Umesh Pal was an important witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju murder case. Former MP Atiq Ahmed is an accused in this murder case.
According to the police, Umesh Pal was attacked when he was returning home from somewhere. As soon as he got down from the car, a young man started firing on him. While other youths started hurling bombs at them. This entire incident was captured in CCTV.
CCTV footage shows Umesh Pal and one of his two police bodyguards getting out of the SUV when suddenly a man came from behind and shot him. The police said some other men used crude bombs during the assault, which exploded in a cloud of smoke, leading to panic and chaos on the road with people running to safety. Many abandoned their vehicles and ran towards shops.
Umesh Pal’s bodyguard tried to catch the attacker, but he too was shot. The second bodyguard also caught a bullet.
Umesh Pal, who appeared to be injured, ran towards an alley with the attacker in pursuit while his bodyguards lay injured on the road. The attacker shot him there for a final time before fleeing.
Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma said, “The information about the attack on Umesh Pal was received at around 5 in the evening. As soon as he reached his house, he was attacked. Umesh Pal died in this incident. One of the two security personnel deployed is on ventilator and his condition remains critical, while the other security personnel is undergoing treatment.”
The police is currently taking action in the matter on the basis of CCTV footage and talking to the family members of Umesh Pal.
According to Police commissioner, eight to ten teams have been set up to investigate the matter and these teams have gone to different places. He told that on the basis of CCTV footage, it is being ascertained that what was the number of attackers.
Let me tell you, Raju Pal was the MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party and he was murdered in 2005.
