Pakistan: A Pakistani official said that an Indian Sikh pilgrim died of a heart attack in Lahore, who had gone to Pakistan to celebrate Khalsa Sajna Divas (Baisakhi).
The deceased has been identified as 67-year-old Jangir Singh from Ratta Khera village in Patiala. Around 2,400 Indian Sikh pilgrims, who arrived in Lahore via the Wagah border to participate in the Baisakhi festival on April 13, left for their homeland on Monday.
A Pakistani spokesperson said, “Sardar Jangir Singh, 67, a resident of Patiala, died of a heart attack on Monday.” He said Singh suffered a heart attack while staying at Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore.
He also said,”He was immediately rushed to Mayo Hospital Lahore where doctors declared him dead.” He added that the body was handed over to Indian security forces at the Wagah border.
At the Wagah border, he was seen off by Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, head of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Punjab minister, PSGPC members and ETPB officials. Arora said, “We are always ready to welcome guests from the neighbouring country.”
Indian Sikhs attended the main celebrations at Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hasanabdal during their 10-day stay. During this visit, the pilgrims also visited Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Sachcha Sauda Sheikhupura, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, Gurdwara Rori Sahib, Gujranwala and Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore.
