Pakistan: Heavy rain, storm wreaks havoc in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa leaves 28 dead

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to National Assembly Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani over telephone and expressed regret over the loss of lives in rain-related incidents. Let us tell you that there was heavy rain on Saturday in many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab province.

Islamabad: Heavy rain and thunderstorm lashed several parts of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces on Saturday, killing 28 people and injuring over 140.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, 25 people were killed and 145 injured in rain-related incidents in KP’s Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak and Lakki Marwat. At least 69 houses have been partially damaged due to the rains, news agency ANI quoted Geo News as saying.

According to reports, 15 people died in Bannu and another 100 were injured. Also, 68 houses have been damaged in the area. Meanwhile, at least five people were killed and another 42 injured in Lakki Marwat district. Apart from this, four people were killed and another person was injured in Karak.

Talking about Dera Ismail Khan, a child was killed there and two others were said to be injured, while a house was also partially damaged.

Relief and rescue work going on
Relief and rescue operations are underway in Lakki Marwat Bannu and other parts of the province in view of the damage caused by the heavy rains. According to officials, rescue and relief operations by Rescue 1122 are underway and all the injured are being taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed many areas of Punjab province including Sargodha, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and other districts. Three girls were killed when a wall of their house collapsed due to torrential rains in Chan village of the province’s Khushab district.
