Pakistan: Special court issues release order to Imran Khan in Cypher case

Pakistan: The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been acquitted in the Cypher Case. On Monday, A special court in Pakistan ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan after the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld his bail in the Official Secrets Act case.

According to report, the PTI founder will remain in Adiala Jail despite bail as he has been arrested in the £190 million Toshakhana case. In December, the Pakistan Supreme Court granted bail to Imran Khan and Pakistan’s former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case. The court directed the PTI leaders to post a surety bond of 10 lakh Pakistani rupees.

A three-judge bench comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood Ki Sadarat and Justices Athar Minallah and Syed Mansoor Ali Shah issued the order based on a set of PTI petitions. The cipher case involves a diplomatic document, which the federal investigation agency alleges Imran never returned.

PTI claimed that the document contained a threat from the United States to remove Imran as Prime Minister. After Imran and Qureshi were convicted for the second time on December 13, the special court resumed the cyber trial in the Adiala District Jail.
