Murmu was born on June 20, 1958 in a Santhali tribal family in Uparbeda village of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. Earlier, Draupadi Murmu served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. He has also served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2009. She has also been the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Government of Odisha from 2000 to 2004.
