The RRTS, a brainchild of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), saw PM Modi interacting with enthusiastic school children and the dedicated crew on board the RapidX train. The 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot, a significant part of the 82.15 km Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, will be accessible to the public starting Saturday. The introduction of the RRTS will drastically reduce travel time between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot from the usual 30-35 minutes by road to just 12 minutes.
Notably, this project marks a historic milestone as the first RRTS initiative in India. The trains operating on this corridor, aptly named ‘Namo Bharat,’ promise efficient and rapid transit services. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced this nomenclature, emphasizing its alignment with the aspirations of millions of people.
The 17-km priority section comprises five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. Passengers can avail of this convenient service at a minimal fare of ₹50 for Standard Class and ₹100 for Premium Class between Sahibabad and Duhai depot. The RRTS trains offer state-of-the-art facilities, including overhead luggage racks, Wi-Fi, and mobile and laptop charging outlets at every seat. Additionally, a premium class car with spacious seating, extra legroom, and coat hangers enhances the passengers’ experience. Vending machines are also available on board for added convenience.
This revolutionary transit system, developed at a cost exceeding ₹30,000 crore, represents a significant leap in India’s transportation infrastructure. PM Modi’s interaction with the students and crew aboard the RapidX train highlighted the nation’s progress in the realm of rapid and efficient public transportation.
