During his visit to Lakshadweep, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for various development projects worth ₹1,150 crore. Addressing the people of the Muslim-dominated archipelago, PM Modi emphasized the small size of Lakshadweep but praised the large-heartedness of its people. The projects include the Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fibre Project, the Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant, solar power plant, and infrastructure improvements.

Development Projects Inaugurated:
The Prime Minister inaugurated projects worth ₹1,150 crore, addressing various sectors for the benefit of the local population. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and essential services in Lakshadweep.

Fast Internet Facility:
PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing border areas and locations at the edge of the sea. The Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fibre Project, announced in 2020, was inaugurated to provide high-speed internet, supporting telemedicine, e-governance, education, and digital services in the islands.

Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) Plant:
The LTTD plant at Kadmat, inaugurated by the Prime Minister, is set to produce 1.5 lakh litres of clean drinking water daily, addressing a crucial need for the islanders.

Solar Power Plant and Other Initiatives:
PM Modi also launched the first battery-backed solar power project in Lakshadweep at Kavaratti. Additionally, he dedicated the Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in all households on the Agatti and Minicoy islands, contributing to improved water supply.

Foundation Stone Laid for Health Facility and Anganwadi Centres:
The foundation stone for the renovation of the primary healthcare facility in Kalpeni and the construction of five model Anganwadi centres (Nand Ghars) in Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti, and Minicoy was laid by PM Modi.

Significance of Submarine Optical Fibre Cable:
The Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fibre Project connects Lakshadweep through a submarine optical fibre cable, marking a significant advancement in communication infrastructure. This development is expected to transform internet services and boost various digital initiatives in the islands.
