The terminal, completed at a cost exceeding Rs 1100 crore, boasts a two-level international design capable of accommodating over 44 lakh passengers annually. It features 60 check-in counters, 5 baggage carousels, 60 arrival immigration counters, and 44 departure emigration counters. The architectural inspiration behind the building reflects the cultural vibrancy of Tiruchirappalli, incorporating elements such as Kolam art, colors of Srirangam Temple, and thematic artworks symbolizing India’s global connections.

The Prime Minister expressed his anticipation of the positive impact these projects will have on the region, mentioning his itinerary that includes addressing the Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. Alongside the airport terminal inauguration, various other development initiatives are slated to be launched during his visit.

Development Projects in Lakshadweep:
In Lakshadweep, PM Modi will inaugurate the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project, significantly enhancing internet speed. This submarine optic fiber cable connection, a first since independence, will increase internet speed from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps. Additionally, the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat will produce 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water daily. The first-ever battery-backed solar power project at Kavaratti aims to reduce dependency on diesel-based power generation, contributing to sustainable energy practices.

Other projects include a new administrative block and an 80-men en barrack in the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) Complex at Kavaratti. These initiatives align with the government’s commitment to comprehensive development, spanning internet connectivity, clean drinking water, solar energy, healthcare, and infrastructure.

PM Modi’s visit underscores the strategic focus on enhancing connectivity, sustainability, and overall development across Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep, benefiting a diverse range of communities and sectors.
