Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to release the 15th tranche of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Wednesday in Jharkhand, as per an official statement.
During the event, Modi will distribute approximately ₹18,000 crore to 80 million farmers through direct benefit transfer. In the previous 14th installment, nearly 80.5 million farmers received ₹17,000 crore in their bank accounts in July.
The PM-KISAN initiative, launched on February 24, 2019, provides income support of ₹6,000 per year to farmers with valid enrollment. This support is disbursed in three equal cash transfers of ₹2,000, spaced four months apart.
In the 13th installment in February, Modi disbursed ₹16,800 crore to nearly 80 million farmers at Karnataka’s Belagavi. The 11th and 12th installments under the PM-KISAN scheme were released in May and October 2022.
The scheme has also proven beneficial for over 30 million women farmers, collectively receiving over ₹53,600 crore, according to government data. Since its inception, the government has disbursed more than ₹2.42 lakh crore to eligible farmers. It’s important to note that PM-KISAN is a 100% centrally funded scheme, and the identification of beneficiaries is the responsibility of state governments. Any land-owning farming household can enroll itself, subject to exclusions such as income ceilings, tax payments, and total asset value.
