Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the ‘Surat Diamond Bourse,’ the world’s largest corporate office hub, this Sunday. Situated on 35.54 acres and constructed at a remarkable cost of Rs 3400 crore, this expansive complex is set to reshape the global dynamics of rough and polished diamond trading.

 

Prime Minister Modi’s Schedule for Today

PM Modi will inaugurate the new integrated terminal building at Surat Airport around 10:45 AM, capable of handling 1,200 domestic and 600 international passengers during peak hours. The Surat Diamond Bourse will be inaugurated at 11:15 AM. Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Varanasi, participating in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra around 3:30 PM and inaugurating Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2023 at Namo Ghat at 5:15 PM. The facility’s peak hour capacity can be expanded to accommodate 3,000 passengers, with an annual handling capacity of 55 lakh passengers.

A Global Trading Hub: 4,200 Traders, 175 Countries, 1.5 Lakh Jobs

With a capacity for 4,200 traders from 175 countries, the Surat Diamond Bourse positions itself as the epicenter of global diamond trade. This ambitious venture aims to generate employment for approximately 1.5 lakh individuals, providing a unique platform for worldwide diamond buyers to engage in seamless trade.

Surat’s Ascent: From ‘Diamond City’ To ‘Global Diamond Processing Hub

Surat, known as the “Diamond City,” has risen as the processing powerhouse, cutting and polishing approximately 90% of the world’s rough diamonds before reaching global buyers. The Surat Diamond Bourse aims to centralize this thriving industry under one roof within the Diamond Research and Mercantile City, marking a monumental step in Surat’s economic landscape.

The Surat Diamond Bourse surpasses the Israel Diamond Exchange in both size and scope, housing more offices and offering a comprehensive array of services. This solidifies its status as a global diamond trading hub, symbolizing India’s prowess in the diamond industry.
