PM Modi’s Call for Introspection: A Message to Unruly MPs Ahead of Budget Session

As the Budget Session of Parliament commences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful message urging introspection among MPs who engage in disruptive behavior. In his address, he emphasized the significance of constructive debate, stating that those who merely oppose for the sake of opposing are not remembered. PM Modi cautioned against the ‘cheerharan’ of democracy, asserting that such actions in Parliament do not leave a lasting legacy.

Referring to the recently passed women’s reservation bill, PM Modi highlighted the display of women empowerment during the January 26 events. He drew attention to the upcoming sessions where President Droupadi Murmu and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would play crucial roles, terming it a festival of ‘Nari Shakti’ (women’s power).

PM Modi’s message to unruly MPs ahead of Budget session. Taking a swipe at MPs accused of disrupting parliamentary proceedings, PM Modi suggested introspection at the last session. He urged MPs to consider whether their constituents remember them for obstructive behavior or positive contributions to meaningful debates.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of regret and urged parliamentarians not to let go of this session as an opportunity for positive engagement. He noted that those who contribute positively to debates, even if using strong criticism, are remembered more favorably than those who oppose without substance.

In a related announcement, PM Modi clarified the tradition of presenting an interim budget when elections are around. He assured that the full budget would be presented after the formation of the government post-election.

PM Modi’s Call for Introspection

As the proceedings of both Houses began after the President’s address, PM Modi’s call for introspection resonated in the context of the last session’s suspensions. The unprecedented number of suspensions, with 146 opposition MPs suspended between December 17 and 19, reflected the tense atmosphere. The revival of 14 suspended MPs on the eve of the session marked a significant turn of events, highlighting the need for a more constructive and collaborative parliamentary environment.
