PM Modi’s Campaign Rally in Karnataka’s Shivamogga Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a significant election rally in Shivamogga, Karnataka, marking his first rally in the state since the Election Commission of India released the Lok Sabha polls schedule. Expectations are high, with BJP leaders anticipating a turnout of around 2.5 lakh attendees for the event, scheduled to commence at 2 pm at the Allama Prabhu ground. Shivamogga, the home district of former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa, holds symbolic importance as the BJP’s stronghold in the state.

However, amidst the anticipation, the BJP faces a challenge as senior leader and former Karnataka deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa has decided to skip the rally. Eshwarappa’s absence is attributed to his dissatisfaction with the party’s decision not to field his son KE Kantesh, who is now contesting independently. Eshwarappa’s contesting in the Lok Sabha polls from Shivamogga further highlights internal rifts within the BJP, with concerns raised about the influence of Yediyurappa’s family over the party.

In response to queries, Eshwarappa emphasized the need for PM Modi’s re-election and expressed concerns about the growing influence of the Yediyurappa family within the party ranks, drawing parallels to the Congress’ internal dynamics.

Karnataka holds significant sway in national politics with its 28 Lok Sabha seats. In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP secured 26 seats, along with an independent, while the Congress-JD(S) alliance clinched two seats. With the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls scheduled in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1, the political landscape in Karnataka remains crucial. The final outcome will be revealed with the counting of votes for all 543 seats slated for June 4.
