The apex committee overseeing the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela has given the green light to 61 development projects amounting to ₹794.67 crore. These initiatives encompass road resurfacing, drainage pipeline installation, streetlighting, and beautification, aiming to enhance the overall infrastructure for the upcoming religious event. Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra stressed the significance of durable and high-quality construction to ensure the success of the Mahakumbh Mela.

Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela Prepares for Grand Event. The Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela’s apex committee, chaired by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, convened its sixth meeting in Lucknow to approve the development projects. In his address, the chief secretary emphasized the need for long-lasting construction work, highlighting the importance of timely completion and high standards in all projects undertaken for the mega-religious fair scheduled for the following year.

Out of the approved projects, 33 pertain to the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation, eight to Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, seven to Prayagraj Development Authority, five to the Ganga Pollution Control Unit, three each to Prayagraj Mela Authority and Public Works Department, and two to the Tourism Department, according to district officials familiar with the matter.

Notable projects include road widening beneath a forthcoming flyover parallel to the Alopibagh flyover on GT Road, surface improvement, beautification near the Mankameshwar Temple, and miscellaneous works by the Public Works Department.

Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam’s approved projects encompass the laying of a drainage pipeline in the mela area, tubewell installation, deployment of 200 water ATMs, temporary septage treatment facility establishment, bioremediation of grey water, and repair and cleaning of 46 tapped drains.

61 Projects Approved by Apex Committee


Prayagraj Municipal Corporation’s sanctioned projects cover streetlighting, supply of eight tower ladder vehicles, a leachate treatment plant in the solid waste plant, installation of dustbins, construction of public urinals, and the provision of mobile toilets for devotees.

Prayagraj Development Authority’s approved initiatives focus on road resurfacing, beautification, drain construction, LED lighting system, green belt development under flyovers, and landscaping of approach roads. The Tourism Department’s projects include the expansion and renovation of Mankameshwar and Alop Shankari Temples.

Development Projects Approves for Prayagraj Mela


Additionally, the Prayagraj Mela Authority received approval for Sangam tour boats procurement, Mahakumbh artwork covering 5 lakh square feet, wall murals spanning 20,000 square feet, and a hydraulic study for river channelization.

The meeting, attended by Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Amrit Abhijat, Kumbh Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand, and other senior officers, featured the participation of Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner, District Magistrate, and senior police officers through video conferencing. The comprehensive projects aim to elevate the infrastructure and facilities for the anticipated grandeur of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela.
