New Delhi: Today, on March 30, President Droupadi Murmu is set to confer the prestigious Bharat Ratna upon five esteemed personalities, recognizing their remarkable contributions to the nation’s development. Among the recipients, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani, former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, eminent agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur will be honored.
Notably, except for LK Advani, the awards will be bestowed posthumously, underscoring the enduring legacies of these luminaries who have left an indelible mark on Indian society.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for the late leaders’ contributions, highlighting their significant roles in shaping India’s socio-economic landscape. He lauded PV Narasimha Rao for his distinguished service as a scholar, statesman, and leader, attributing India’s economic progress and prosperity to his visionary leadership.
Similarly, Chaudhary Charan Singh was honored for his lifelong dedication to championing the rights and welfare of farmers, symbolizing his unwavering commitment to grassroots empowerment.
The late MS Swaminathan, renowned for his groundbreaking work in agriculture, was recognized for his pivotal role in ensuring food security and modernizing Indian agriculture, thereby fostering national self-reliance.
Karpoori Thakur, remembered for his contributions to Bihar’s development and welfare, will also be posthumously honored for his exemplary service to the state and its people.
