Deoria/Uttar Pradesh: A temple priest was allegedly murdered in a dispute over playing DJ in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. In view of the tension prevailing after the incident, police force has been deployed in the village. A police officer gave this information on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma said that Ashok Choubey (60), a priest of a temple located in Baripur village of Bhaluani police station area, was allegedly beaten to death with sticks late on Tuesday night. He told that initial investigation revealed that a few days ago, Pujari Choubey had a dispute with a person named Hausla Paswan from the same village over playing DJ.
According to the information received from the sources, the officer said that there was a fight between the two again on this matter at around 10 pm on Tuesday night, after which Paswan along with his associates attacked the priest with sticks. He said that the priest was seriously injured due to head injury.
The Superintendent of Police said that the priest was taken to Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College for treatment, where the doctors declared him dead. He said that in connection with the incident, three people including Paswan are being detained and interrogated and in view of the tension prevailing after the incident, police force has been deployed in the temple premises as well as the village.
