Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor Project Commenced in November 2021

Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier announced that the first stretch of the bullet train, covering 50 km between Bilimora and Surat in Gujarat, is set to be completed by August 2026. He also highlighted the significant progress made on the larger Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, with 100 km of viaducts and 230 km of pier work completed.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, initiated in November 2021, has been steadily advancing since its inception. The foundation for the ambitious bullet train project was laid in Ahmedabad in September 2017. The estimated cost for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is ₹1.08 lakh crore, with the central government committing ₹10,000 crore, and Gujarat and Maharashtra contributing ₹5,000 crore each. The remaining funds will be secured through a loan from Japan at a minimal 0.1% interest rate.
