India is continuously sending relief material
This was the seventh flight that airlifted equipment and relief material from India to the two countries affected by the 6 February earthquake. Officials said the C-17s transported 23 tonnes of relief supplies to Syria and about 12 tonnes to Turkey.
The material headed for Turkey included supplies for an army field hospital and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) search and rescue teams. The aircraft was carrying medical equipment like ECG machine, patient monitor, anesthesia machine, syringe pump, glucometer, blankets and other relief material. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the flight is carrying more than 35 tonnes of relief material, of which more than 23 tonnes is for relief efforts in Syria and about 12 tonnes for Turkey.
Death toll more than 28,000
The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 28,000 and despite some miraculous rescues, hope for many more remains bleak. The quake has been described by the UN aid chief as “the worst to hit the region in 100 years”.
