Several coaches engulfs after fire breaks out on New Delhi-Darbhanga Superfast Express near UP’s Etawah

Visuals from the spot showed multiple coaches of the train going up in flames. The extent of the fire was so severe that the blaze could be seen from several meters away. The incident comes at a time when trains going to UP and Bihar are witnessing an unprecedented rush of passengers due to Chhath Puja.

New Delhi: Several coaches engulfed into flames after major fire broke out in some coaches of the 02570 New Delhi-Darbhanga Superfast Express on Tuesday evening while it was crossing through Sarai Bhupat station in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.

Visuals from the spot showed multiple coaches of the train going up in flames. The extent of the fire was so severe that the blaze could be seen from several meters away. The incident comes at a time when trains going to UP and Bihar are witnessing an unprecedented rush of passengers due to Chhath Puja.

According to officials, when the train was passing through the Sarai Bhupat station, the station master had noticed smoke in the sleeper coach.

The station master then stopped the train by informing the train driver and guard about the smoke. Subsequently, the passengers were taken out of the sleeper coach.

The fire erupts in one of the coaches and soon engulfed three coaches of the train bound for Darbhanga in Bihar. Several passengers jumped out of the train as soon as it caught on fire. According to sources, there were more passengers on the train than its capacity.

The fire incident unfolded near the Sarai Bhupat Railway station in Uttar Pradesh. The fire has now been brought under control. It is not yet known what caused the fire.
