Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the aftermath of a recent snowfall, causing significant disruptions across the state. As a fresh layer of snow blanketed the region, a total of 475 roads, including five national highways, came to a standstill. Moreover, 333 electricity supply schemes and 57 water supply schemes faced disruptions, impacting the daily lives of residents.
Snowfall Havoc in Himachal Pradesh Roads Blocked. Snow-clearing operations are underway in nine stations of Lahaul-Spiti, where higher reaches experienced additional snowfall. The latest data reveals that road closures were widespread, with 56 roads affected in Chamba, 1 in Kangra, 6 in Kinnaur, 51 in Mandi, and 133 in Shimla.
Over the weekend, Lahaul Spiti police took to social media to provide weather and road status updates for Saturday. Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, Udaipur, Tindi, Koksar, Sissu, North Portal, and South Portal reported snow depths ranging from 1 to 5 feet, along with detailed road status information.
The surge in tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh since the New Year has compounded the challenges posed by the snowfall. While the state offers a picturesque winter landscape, the Himachal Pradesh Police are cautioning travelers to assess weather conditions before embarking on journeys, recommending travel only when absolutely necessary.
