New Delhi: On Thursday, Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform X is back after users across the world faced a massive outage outage more than an hour. Earlier, as per Down Detector, a platform that monitors service outages, Twitter was down and not showing tweets to users.

Users from various regions filed reports, and the problems started around 10:54 AM. While the Twitter app and websites were up and running, users were unable to see any tweets on any of their tabs. All tabs including Following, For You and Lists were empty. The problem is global and not just specific to Indian users. Many users encountered a global outage on the microblogging platform.

This problem extended to both the app and the website, leaving users unable to view any posts. When users tried to access X, some were faced with a blank page due to server issues. It seems that the issue is affecting only visibility of the tweets. This is because within minutes of the issue surfacing, #TwitterDown is already trending on the website.

So, users can create and post tweets. It’s just that those tweets aren’t visible to anyone at the moment. Around 64 per cent of complaints are related to issues within the app, while approximately 30 per cent report problems accessing the website. Interestingly, Twitter Spaces is working all fine and many users are now hosting their “spaces” to discuss the ongoing outage on the website.

The Elon Musk owned platform has faced technical issues multiple times in the past couple of months. On December 14, all outgoing links from X suddenly stopped working. This isn’t the first time Elon Musk’s microblogging platform has experienced server issues.

There were previous instances of global outages in July and March of this year. Users encounter difficulties accessing links, photos, and videos when X faces downtime. There was an issue with the URL redirect function that usually tracks user activity before redirecting them elsewhere. Instead of reaching their intended destination, users were directed to a basic error page.

The error message humorously stated, “This page is down. I scream. You scream. We all scream… for us to fix this page. We’ll stop making jokes and get things up and running soon.” This year alone, it faced disruptions in March and July. In July, Downdetector recorded over 13,000 instances of X being down in the US and the UK. Users encountered an error message stating, “Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments then try again.”

Currently, X boasts a substantial user base in India, with 27 million users. In America, it has 95 million users. Demonstrating its significance, X sees about 50 crore (500 million) posts daily. During a March 6 outage, the platform went dark for a few hours. Users grappled with difficulties accessing links, images, and videos, experiencing disruptions in their regular usage.

The ongoing server problems impact a large number of users who rely on the platform for communication and information. This downtime affected a significant number of users, and some regions reported slower website performance than usual.
