In a landmark event aimed at showcasing the natural beauty of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar played host to its first-ever Formula-4 car racing event on the picturesque banks of Dal Lake. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to further promote tourism and create diverse career avenues for local youth.
Organized in collaboration between Formula-4 and the Indian Racing League under the guidance of the Tourism Department, the 1.7 km long race track stretched from Lalit Ghat to Nehru Park in the capital city, offering a thrilling spectacle for spectators and participants alike.
PM Modi, expressing his delight, said, “This is very heartening to see. It will help further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. India offers great opportunities for motorsports to thrive and Srinagar is right on top of the places where it can happen!”

The Formula-4 event kicked off at 10 am on Sunday and concluded at 2 pm, witnessing professional Formula 4 drivers showcasing their skills and performing exhilarating stunts. The presence of numerous enthusiastic youths added to the vibrant atmosphere, with professional drivers interacting with fans and sharing insights into the world of car sports.
Authorities left no stone unturned in ensuring the success of this inaugural event. Extensive arrangements included levelling the racing surface, black-topping potholes, installing barricades, deploying medical teams with ambulances, fire extinguishers, and providing ample security. The event was further bolstered by drone surveillance, enhancing safety and efficiency.
While the Formula-4 race was about speed and competition, the organizers emphasized that it was also a message of celebrating resilience and unity. Kashmir has witnessed a surge in popularity in motorsports events in recent years, with organizers confident that events like these will inspire youth to pursue careers in the exciting world of Formula-4 racing.
