Suspension of Opposition 11 RS MPs to be revoked, says Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, the suspension of 11 Rajya Sabha MPs has been revoked which starts tomorrow. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has given this information. He said the suspensions has happened because despite the unanimous decision in front of Speaker, they came with placards and disturbed House.

In a statement,he said,”All suspensions will be revoked. I have spoken with the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman, and I have also requested them on behalf of the government… This falls under the jurisdiction of the Speaker and the Chairman. So, we have requested both of them to communicate with the concerned privileged committees, revoke the suspension, and give them the opportunity to return to the House. Both of them have agreed.”

“Yes,” he confirmed when asked if the suspended MPs will return to the House starting tomorrow. 146 MPs were suspended last month during the Winter Session of Parliament as the Opposition demanded a statement from the Union Home Minister about the security breach in the Lok Sabha when men had smuggled in smoke bombs and let them off during house proceedings.

In a decisive move, the government has initiated discussions with the privileges committees of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, urging them to revoke the suspensions of all Opposition members. Of the 146, 132 MPs were suspended for the remainder of the session. So their suspension was revoked when the session concluded.

For the remaining 14 MPs – 11 from Rajya Sabha and 3 from Lok Sabha -the case was referred to the privileges committees of both the Houses.Minister Pralhad Joshi affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to constructive dialogue by seeking the reinstatement of the suspended MPs.

While the Privileges Committee of Lok Sabha lifted the suspension of 3 Lok Sabha MPs on January 12, suspension of 11 Rajya Sabha MPs was revoked today. Minister Joshi emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation among parliamentary members for the effective functioning of the session.

He conveyed the government’s appeal to the Opposition to extend their cooperation, highlighting that the Speaker would take necessary action in case of non-compliance.The Opposition had alleged that the suspension of MPs was the government’s ploy to pass key bills without any discussion.
