Chennai: In yet another tragic incident, three children killed on Tuesday morning after a sub-urban train on the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route ran over them near Chengalpattu when they were trying to cross the railway tracks at the Urapakkam railway station. Two of the three children had hearing and speech disabilities.

Deceased children identified as 15-year-old Suresh with a hearing disability, 12-year-old Ravi with speech disability, and 11-year-old Manjunath who was in Urapakkam to spend the long weekend with his extended family.

Officials said the children were playing near the tracks and tried to cross the tracks at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, when the accident happened. It was a sub-urban train plying between Beach Station and Chengalpattu. All three were died on the spot, they added.

The Guduvancheri Police and Railway Police authorities reached the spot and recovered the bodies from the track. The children’s parents were also alerted. The bodies have been sent to a government hospital for postmortem.

Their bodies were shifted to Chromepet government hospital for post-mortem. Tambaram Railway police said a case has been registered in the matter and a further investigation is underway.
