Chennai: A functionary leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur was arrested after he allegedly posted morphed images of Chief Minister MK Stalin and some other leaders of his party, DMK, on social media.

According to the police officials, the BJP functionary was identified as Suresh, a resident of Vadugapalayam and was detained late on Wednesday.

The other leaders whose morphed images were posted were Udhayanidhi Stalin, Senthil Balaji, Mano Thangaraj, PTR Thyagarajan, Chief Minister’s son-in-law Sabareesan, DMK MP TR Baalu and VCK MP Thirumavalavan.

Commenting on the incident, the police said they filed a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Further investigations in connection with the case were underway.

70-Year-old Stalin, the third son of 2nd Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi, is an Indian politician serving as the 8th and current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He came into headlines when he was jailed in Central Prison, Madras under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) for protesting against the Emergency in 1976. His political career began in his early teens when he started the DMK Gopalapuram Youth Wing with several friends.
