Tamil Nadu: IT department searches underway at residence, college of state Minister EV Velu

Tamil Nadu: On Friday, a police source said that the Income Tax (I-T) officials conducted searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu linked to Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works Department and Highways EV Velu.

Tamil Nadu: On Friday, a police source said that the Income Tax (I-T) officials conducted searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu linked to Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works Department and Highways EV Velu.

The searches were being held in different parts of the state, including Chennai, the sources added without divulging details. On early morning, the raids are currently underway at educational institutes including Arunai Medical College, Arunai Engineering College, hotels, and industrial establishments belonging to the DMK Minister in Chennai, Thiruvannamalai and Karur.

Velu, a senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader, holds the Public Works portfolio in the MK Stalin-led cabinet. Today, The officials of the Income Tax department carried out simultaneous searches at more than 40 places linked to Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works Department and Highways EV Velu.

Besides this, close associates of the minister and contractors of the Public Works Department and Highways have also come under the ambit of the IT probe. According to IT sources, the raids are being conducted following complaints of tax evasion. Similarly, IT officials are also conducting searches at the homes of relatives of popular real estate promoters including Appasamy Real Estate and Casagrande in Chennai. It is noteworthy that after Minister Senthil Balaji and DMK MP, EV Velu was the third DMK leader to come under the scanner of the central agency.
