KOLKATA: On Monday,Veteran TMC leader and Baranagar MLA Tapas Roy resigned as the party’s legislator, hinted at quitting the Mamata Banerjee-led party, citing displeasure over its methodology and handling of the messaging issue.. The resignation came a day after the Enforcement Directorate raided the residences of three party leaders, including Tapas Roy, in connection with the alleged irregularities in civic body recruitments.

Tapas Roy was said to be upset with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and alleged she did not speak a word in his support and did not stand by him. He said she stood with other Trinamool Congress leaders and not him.

After this decision, he told reporters, “I am really disappointed with the way the party is functioning. I am fed up with so many allegations of corruption levelled against the party and the government. Secondly, I do not support the way the Sandeshkhali issue was handled.”

Senior TMC leaders reportedly met him in an attempt to pacify him. Tapas Roy has been an aide of Mamata Banerjee since her early days and when she left Congress and formed the Trinamool Congress in the 1990s.

The TMC deputy chief whip in the assembly has been in conflict with TMC MP from North Kolkata, Sudip Bandopadhyay. A three-time MLA, Tapas Roy was given a ministerial post by Mamata Banerjee some time ago, but he was removed a few days ago.

he said,”I have been a loyal soldier of the party for the last 25 years. But I did not get my due.” Recently, the Trinamool Congress had removed Tapas Roy as the party’s North Kolkata district president. According to sources, Roy is expected to submit his resignation as TMC MLA today afternoon.
