Kolkata: Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned by the CBI on Tuesday even after the Supreme Court granted relief in the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. He has been asked to appear at the CBI’s Nizam Palace office on Tuesday, but since the Supreme Court has granted him interim relief in the matter.

According to CBI sources, he has been asked to appear at the Nizam Palace by 11 am tomorrow. A notice was sent to Abhishek in the recruitment corruption case at 1:40 PM on Monday afternoon. TMC leaders say that the Central Investigation Agency is pressing for Abhishek Banerjee’s name. Kuntal Ghosh, arrested in the recruitment corruption case and expelled from the Trinamool, has told the Hair Street Police Station and Alipore Court Judge. CBI can no longer question Abhishek Banerjee regarding Kuntal Ghosh’s letter. The Supreme Court has placed an interim stay on Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s order.

Earlier, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had taken action after learning about Kuntal Ghosh’s letter. He directed that central agencies like ED and CBIE will interrogate Abhishek Banerjee if necessary. Justice Gangopadhyay ordered that the District Judge of South 24 Parganas submit the charge sheet of Kuntal Ghosh in the Calcutta High Court by Wednesday.

The Trinamool MP approached the Supreme Court challenging that order. A stay order has been given in the high court’s decision on Monday. Now Abhishek Banerjee is considering filing a contempt case in court against the CBI notice.
