Tourist dies after being beaten by mob over ‘seating arrangement’ in Himachal; 6 Detained

According to police, the tourists from Punjab were brutally thrashed and beaten by the eatery owner and his staff during the argument. The deceased Navdeep is a resident of Phagwara in Kapurthala district of Punjab, according to a report in Times of India.

Kullu: In a distressing incident reported from Himachal Pradesh, a tourist from Punjab was beaten to death after an argument over seating arrangement at an eatery in Kangra district. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Navdeep Singh. The incident took place on Thursday when Navdeep along with a group of his friends was having meal at a dhaba. An argument broke out between Navdeep’s group and dhaba owner.

According to police, the tourists from Punjab were brutally thrashed and beaten by the eatery owner and his staff during the argument. The deceased Navdeep is a resident of Phagwara in Kapurthala district of Punjab, according to a report in Times of India.

Police said some local also badly beaten Navdeep and his friends. Eyewitnesses account maintained that some local taxi owners were also involved in the assault.

During the assault, the victim tourist fell on the ground and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced brought dead by doctors. Navdeep’s body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

According to Kangra SP Shalini Agnihotri, six persons have been taken into custody in connection with the assault. A murder case has been filed at McLeodganj police station in Kangra.
