‘Unwarranted, unsubstantiated imputations’: MEA slams to US post report on Pannun case

New Delhi: On Tuesday, The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reacted strongly to a report in US newspaper The Washington Post that claimed a RAW officer was involved in a failed attempt to kill India-designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

New Delhi: On Tuesday, The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reacted strongly to a report in US newspaper The Washington Post that claimed a RAW officer was involved in a failed attempt to kill India-designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

The newspaper, citing an anonymous source, named a RAW officer in connection with the alleged conspiracy to kill Pannun. India said the report makes “unwarranted and unsubstantiated imputations on a serious matter.”

On this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “There is an ongoing investigation of the High Level Committee set up by the Government of India to look into the security concerns shared by the US government on networks of organised criminals, terrorists and others. Speculative and irresponsible comments on it are not helpful.”

Earlier in November last year, US federal prosecutors accused Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta of working with an Indian government employee in a failed conspiracy to kill a Sikh extremist Pannun on American soil. Pannun, wanted in India on terrorism charges, has dual citizenship of the US and Canada. Investigation committee was formed

On December 7, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said in Parliament that India has formed an investigation committee to look into the inputs received from the US in the matter. Because this matter affects national security.
