The Vice Chancellor of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) in Prayagraj, Rajendra Bihari Lal, has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder. The arrest follows a complaint by former BJP leader Diwakar Nath Tripathi, who alleged that two individuals accompanying Lal in an SUV opened fire at him.

Shooting Incident Unfolds Near Arail Dam

Diwakar Nath Tripathi reported that the incident occurred on Sunday morning when he was returning from his morning walk near Arail dam. According to Tripathi, two men accompanying Lal in an SUV attempted to overtake and stop his vehicle, eventually opening fire at him. The police have registered a case against Lal under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace), and 427 (mischief causing damage).

History of Legal Issues for VC

Rajendra Bihari Lal has a history of legal troubles, with 26 cases registered against him in various districts, including Prayagraj, Lucknow, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, and Pratapgarh. The charges range from alleged illegal religious conversion to other offenses. Tripathi, the complainant, asserts that the grudge against him stems from his filing several cases against Lal and others.
