Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underscored Uttar Pradesh’s significant economic progress during a meeting on Monday, revealing that the state is now the country’s second-largest economy. With a clear trajectory, the state is on track to achieve the monumental target of a $1 trillion economy.

Impressive GDP Growth and Contributions


Highlighting the strides made in recent years, Adityanath noted the state’s GDP growth from ₹16.45 lakh crore in 2021-22 to over ₹22.58 lakh crore in 2022-23. Uttar Pradesh’s contribution stands at 9.2% of the national income, solidifying its position as a crucial growth engine for India.

Comparative Growth Rates and Projections


Comparative growth rates indicate U.P.’s consistent economic vigor. The state’s growth rates in 2021-22 surpassed national averages, with a 20.1% growth in current prices. As projections for 2023-24 indicate a GDP estimate exceeding ₹25.55 lakh crore, the state remains focused on its ambitious 2027 target.

Data-Driven Approach for Economic Advancement


To ensure alignment with the $1 trillion goal, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized the importance of accurate data collection. He called for monthly departmental reviews and enhanced coordination to monitor progress rigorously.

Digital Initiatives and Agricultural Achievements


The incorporation of digital technology has revolutionized Uttar Pradesh’s primary economy, with digital crop surveys enhancing accuracy. Agricultural accomplishments, such as a 26.8% increase in sugarcane cultivation and a 31.9% rise in horticultural crop production, were highlighted.

Industrial and Tertiary Sector Developments

The secondary sector has witnessed a 17.0% rise in industrial power consumption, with plans for new industrial corridors and Pledge Parks. Furthermore, the tertiary sector, encompassing tourism, real estate, and professional services, has experienced unparalleled growth. U.P. secured the highest number of tourist arrivals in 2022, with cities like Varanasi, Mathura, and Ayodhya emerging as significant hubs.
