Pithoragarh: A painful accident took place in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. A jeep going from Sama in Bageshwar to Hokra temple in Munsiyari block of Pithoragarh district overturned from the road and fell into the Ramganga river. There is a preliminary report of the death of nine out of ten people in the vehicle.
The accident was informed by other drivers passing by. Police from Nachani police station, revenue and disaster relief rescue teams from Tejam are reaching the spot on the information of other drivers passing through here. The spot is a very remote area. The jeep has reached the river falling from a deep gorge of more than 600 meters. While the dead bodies of the people are visible in the middle of the ditch.
Heera Singh Mehta, head of Khoyam, says that it rained heavily last night. Due to which the drain started flowing on the road and the road got sunk. The road has become deadly. Such a big accident has happened at the same place where the road is sunken. All the villagers are doing rescue.
MLA Harish Dhami has talked to the top officials of the district including the District Magistrate. He has asked the officials to reach Hokra immediately and speed up the rescue. He told that in connection with the accident, he would talk to the Chief Minister and demand proper compensation to the family members of the deceased. MLA Harish Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over this terrible accident.
