In a significant stride towards legal uniformity, the Uttarakhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report. The impending Bill, derived from the endorsed report, is poised for presentation in the ongoing Assembly session that commenced on February 5 and will extend until the 8th of this month.
Chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, the UCC drafting committee submitted its comprehensive draft to Chief Minister Dhami on Friday. The Cabinet’s affirmative decision, following a session at the State Secretariat on Saturday, underscores the state government’s commitment to transforming the UCC into law.
