Watch: American Airlines flight catches fire mid-air after bird hits its engine

US/Ohio: A bird collided with an American Airlines flight. After this the engine of the plane caught fire. It kept flying for about 20 minutes, after which its emergency landing was done in Ohio. According to the American time, the incident took place on the morning of 23 April. Its video has now surfaced. Fire and black smoke are visible in it.

According to the investigation so far, the engine of the aircraft caught fire after hitting the bird and this incident took place on the morning of April 23, while now its video has come to the fore. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement to CBS News that “no one was injured in the incident and the plane landed safely at John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 8 a.m. local time.”

The incident was captured on camera by a Twitter user who shared the video on the microblogging website and wrote, “I just saw AA1958 with major engine issues just after take off. Flames shooting from the engine and wonky, pulsing noises from the aircraft.”

Airport officials acknowledged the incident on Twitter and said the plane had landed safely. Airport officials wrote in a tweet that “emergency crews made a safe landing of an aircraft at CMH this morning with a report of an engine fire. The aircraft landed safely and the airport is open and operational.”

The Boeing 737 commercial jet landed back at the airport on Sunday, about 30 minutes after its initial takeoff, according to tracking site FlightAware. The aircraft was flying from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona State, USA, and had taken off from John Glenn Airport in Columbus City, Ohio State, USA. According to the report, after about 40 minutes of take-off, fire started coming out from the wings of the aircraft and it was found that the engine of the aircraft was on fire.

The incident comes just days after an engine caught fire during take-off from the Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina. No one was injured in the incident, which was later reported as a mechanical failure in the engine.
