Watch: Grand Portrait of Lord Ram Illuminated by 14 lakh diyas ahead of Mandir Consecration

Ayodhya: In the heart of Ayodhya, a city rich in spiritual and cultural richness, a unique tribute to Lord Ram has been created by the skillful hands of mosaic artist Anil Kumar. The canvas is unconventional, the medium is traditional, and the result, simply breathtaking. Kumar has used an impressive 14 lakh (1.4 million) diyas or earthen lamps to create a magnificent portrait of Lord Rama.

The artwork displayed at Saket Mahavidyalaya has attracted wide attention due to its grand scale and deep spiritual significance. The sheer number of lamps used not only underlines the skill and dedication of Anil Kumar, but also presents a true representation of the intense cultural and religious sentiments associated with Lord Ram in Ayodhya and across India.

71-year-old Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey dropped the stunning video of the grand image on social media platform, X. The artwork also depicted portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, flanking the words ‘Jai Shri Ram’ made using diyas.

“Shri Ram had returned after 14 years of exile and in Ayodhya, an image of Lord Ram in his ‘parakrami roop’ (state of valour) had been made. This is to give the message to the youth of new India that they should be ‘parakrami’ (valourous),” the minister said. The Ram temple being built in Ayodhya has also been depicted in it.

The use of diyas as an artistic medium harmonizes with the festive practices commonly seen in Indian festivals. Notably, Diwali—the festival of lights—sees millions of traditional lamps illuminate homes, temples, and public places across the country. By integrating these deeply symbolic elements into his portrait of Lord Rama, Kumar has created an artwork that resonates with cultural authenticity and spiritual resonance.

Views of the spectacular painting were captured by a drone, offering a unique aerial view that reveals the intricate design and sheer scale of the artwork. These images have mesmerized the audience, giving a glimpse of the meticulous effort and unwavering dedication put in by the artist to bring this spiritual tribute to life.
