A 65-year-old woman passed away at AIIMS Rishikesh after suffering burn injuries while trying to put out a forest fire on her farm in a village in Pauri tehsil. The state’s Meteorological Center Director mentioned the possibility of rain on May 7-8, potentially intensifying on May 11, which could aid in extinguishing the fires.
Savitri Devi, in Thapli village, got trapped in the fire while attempting to salvage grass bundles from her farm. Despite being rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning. Forest department officials have registered a case against four individuals for setting fire in Gangolihat forest range.
In the past 24 hours, 24 forest fire incidents were reported, affecting 23.75 hectares of forest. Chief Minister Dhami instructed district magistrates to prohibit burning of fodder and solid waste near forests for a week, aiming for coordinated efforts to control the fires. Since November 1 last year, 910 forest fire incidents have occurred, affecting approximately 1145 hectares of forest land.
