Amidst the recent controversy surrounding YouTuber Kamiya Jani’s visit to the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the influencer has issued a clarification, asserting that she is a practicing Hindu and has never eaten or promoted beef. The political row ignited when the BJP accused the state government of facilitating the entry of a “beef consumption promoter” into the sacred temple premises.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Ms. Jani expressed her motive behind visiting the Jagannath Temple, stating, “My motive behind going to Jagannath was to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and present information about the temple’s infrastructure. I am a practicing Hindu. I have never eaten beef, and don’t promote it ever.”

Addressing the controversy, she emphasized the need to share real facts and the truth. “This one incident, in no way, will shake my pride in my country and its rich culture. I am and will always be a proud Indian,” she added.

The dispute arose after Ms. Jani’s video on Shree Jagannath’s culture featured bureaucrat-turned-BJD leader VK Pandian discussing various aspects of temple development. The BJP accused Pandian of allowing Ms. Jani, accused of promoting beef consumption on her YouTube channel, into the temple, where the entry of non-Hindus is prohibited.

Controversy Surrounding YouTuber Kamiya Jani’s visit to the Jagannath Temple. The Odisha unit of the BJP expressed concerns about the disregard for the sanctity of Puri Srimandir and called for consequences. Ms. Jani clarified that photos featuring her at a restaurant serving beef were from a video shot in Kerala, where she showcased a restaurant started by two truck drivers known for its beef dish. She reiterated her preference for vegetarian food during the visit.

In response to the BJP’s accusations, the BJD pointed out that several party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had previously promoted Kamiya Jani’s documentary on Hindu heritage and temples. Ms. Jani hopes her clarification will reach those who were misled by the misunderstanding.
