In a heartwarming display of civic duty, 102-year-old Haji Karam Din made his way to a polling booth in Jammu for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. Assisted by a family member, he entered the polling station in Reasi district with a walking stick, marking yet another instance of his unwavering commitment to democracy.

After casting his vote, Din proudly displayed his inked finger and posed for photographs outside the booth. “I am very happy to vote at this age. I have voted every time, and this journey continues even at 102,” he remarked, embodying the spirit of electoral participation.

Reasi district, part of the Jammu parliamentary constituency, boasts over 17.81 lakh eligible voters who will determine the fate of 22 candidates. Incumbent BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma seeks a third consecutive term, facing stiff competition from Congress candidate Raman Bhalla.

Enthusiastic voters, some clad in traditional Dogra attire, flocked to polling stations as voting commenced at 7 am across 2,416 polling stations. By 9 am, a turnout of 10.39% was recorded, reflecting the electorate’s eagerness to exercise their franchise.

This election holds particular significance as the first major poll in Jammu following the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories five years ago.
