Chhattisgarh, Bijapur: In a significant operation against Maoist insurgents, three individuals, including two women cadres, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The skirmish occurred around 8 am in the Belam Gutta hills under the Basaguda police station limits, more than 400 km from the state capital Raipur.
The encounter unfolded during an anti-Maoist operation led by the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the ‘Commando Battalion for Resolute Action’ (CoBRA), an elite unit of the CRPF. The security forces had received intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres, including senior leaders Vinod Verma, Raju Punem, Vishwanath, and Guddu Telam, in the Balam Nedra forest.
After the exchange of gunfire ceased, the security forces discovered the bodies of three Maoists, including two women, at the encounter site. Additionally, a cache of explosives, weapons, Maoist uniforms, literature, and other items were seized. The identity of the deceased Maoists is yet to be ascertained, and a search operation is underway in nearby areas.
The encounter marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to counter Maoist insurgency in the region. Security forces continue their vigilant operations to ensure the safety and security of the affected areas, disrupting the activities of armed insurgent groups and preventing potential threats to the local population.
