AAP leader and Delhi minister Kailash Gehlot summoned by probe agency ED in liquor policy case

New Delhi: On Saturday, AAP leader and Delhi minister Kailash Gahlot has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in liquor policy case, according to the sources. Mr Gehlot is currently the minister for home, transport, and law in the Delhi government.

The summons come just days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in the case. The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped.

The sources said Gahlot has been asked to appear for questioning in the case and getting his statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED claims that under this policy, retailers were offered impossibly high profit margins of about 185 per cent and wholesalers 12 per cent. The agency claims that six per cent of the wholesalers, or more than Rs 600 crore, was recovered as bribe and this money was allegedly used for Goa and Punjab election campaigns.

Three top Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have been arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case. The other two are AAP MP Sanjay Singh and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha is also in jail.
