Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators made a striking statement during the first Delhi Assembly Session by turning up in yellow T-shirts emblazoned with slogans protesting the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Notable party leaders, including Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, joined the demonstration, highlighting slogans such as “Main Bhi Kejriwal” and “Modi ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal.”
Speaking to the media, Atishi emphasized the unprecedented nature of Kejriwal’s arrest just ahead of the national elections, condemning it as an attempt to undermine democracy. Kejriwal’s detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s former excise policy has sparked outrage among AAP members.
The Delhi Assembly was adjourned until April 1 following uproar from AAP MLAs protesting Kejriwal’s arrest. Slogans reverberated through the chamber as legislators voiced their opposition to what they perceive as an unjustified action against the sitting Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court issued a stern warning to protesting lawyers affiliated with AAP’s legal cell. Acting Chief Justice cautioned against organized protests within court premises, emphasizing the fundamental right of citizens to approach the court. The court underscored that obstructing individuals from exercising this right would have severe consequences.
In a parallel legal development, Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest by the ED was heard by the Delhi High Court. The AAP leader contends that his fundamental and human rights were violated, arguing that the ED has failed to establish his guilt in the alleged money laundering case.
