New Delhi : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reaffirmed on Tuesday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will respond to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons in the excise policy case strictly adhering to legal guidance. The summons, marking the third instance, are part of a joint probe by both the ED and CBI, with the previous two issued on November 2 and December 21.
Sources suggest that Kejriwal’s schedule for Wednesday remains relatively unoccupied, allowing him flexibility to address the summons.
Previously, Kejriwal dispatched written responses to the ED, labeling the summons as “not based upon any objective or rational yardstick” and branding them as “pure propaganda.” The AAP has consistently criticized the investigation, labeling it as a politically motivated endeavor. Notably, senior AAP figures, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, have faced arrests by the ED in connection with this case.
A senior unnamed AAP leader commented, “The ongoing summons seem to serve as a mere pretext to incarcerate the CM, despite his non-involvement as an accused in the case.”
Legal experts weigh in on potential consequences if Kejriwal opts out of the ED’s questioning again. The agency retains the option to persistently issue notices until his compliance. Failing this, the ED could approach the court for a non-bailable warrant or alternatively conduct the interrogation at Kejriwal’s residence.
