Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar dismissed the notion that his nephew, Ajit Pawar, who leads a rebel NCP faction, would ascend to the position of Chief Minister in Maharashtra. Pawar also pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not govern in 70% of states in India and predicted a loss of power for the BJP in Maharashtra as well.
Responding to speculations about Ajit Pawar’s potential elevation to the top post after he became Deputy Chief Minister in a coalition government with the Shiv Sena-BJP, Sharad Pawar made it clear that this scenario was unlikely.
Pawar expressed confidence that the Maha Vikas Aghadi, a coalition of the Shiv Sena, NCP (led by Sharad Pawar), and Congress, would regain power in Maharashtra following the 2024 elections.
He emphasized that the BJP came to power in certain states by dismantling other political parties but noted that it is not in power in 70% of the states across the country.
Furthermore, Sharad Pawar welcomed the participation of Prakash Ambedkar, leader of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, in the Opposition’s INDIA grouping.
Addressing his former colleague Chhagan Bhujbal’s past proposal to make Supriya Sule the NCP president,Pawar remarked on Bhujbal’s shift to a different political faction.
Pawar also noted that if Pankaja Munde, a BJP leader reportedly sidelined within the party, decides to establish her own political entity, it would likely receive a positive response.
