Bengal: All schools in West Bengal will remain closed next week due to scorching heat. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that this is because the weather is very hot. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said that all educational institutions in the state will remain closed next week in view of the ‘severe’ heat wave.

She said that since last few days children have been complaining of headache and other health problems after returning from school. Mamata told a Bengali news channel, “It has been decided to keep all educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities closed from Monday to Saturday next week in view of the severe heat wave situation.”

He said, “I request private educational institutions also to do the same during this period.” The Chief Minister said that an official notification in this regard would be issued soon. “I would also request people to avoid going out in the sun from 12 noon to 4 pm,” she said. The temperature recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius.

Earlier, the West Bengal government had issued an official notice declaring summer vacation three weeks earlier from May 2 in government and aided schools, except in hilly areas, in view of the scorching heat.

Day temperatures are being recorded above 40 degrees Celsius at most places in the state and the Met department has predicted that the heatwave conditions will continue till April 19.
