Allahabad HC Suspends Raj Babbar’s Conviction in Assault Case. The order was issued by Justice Mohammad Faiz Alam Khan in response to an application filed by Raj Babbar under Section 389(2) of the CrPC.

The application requested the suspension of the conviction order dated July 7, 2022, passed by an additional chief judicial magistrate-III for an incident that occurred during polling in 1996. The FIR was lodged by polling officer Krishna Singh Rana at Wazirganj police station against Raj Babbar, who was accused of engaging in a scuffle with polling party members at a polling booth.

According to the witness, Babbar’s associates accompanied him to the booth and accused the polling party of fake polling, but Babbar prevented them from doing so. Despite this, the additional chief judicial magistrate court in Lucknow convicted Babbar under Section 332 of the IPC and sentenced him to a maximum of two years’ imprisonment on July 7, 2022.

Babbar has appealed against this conviction, which is pending before the additional sessions judge, MP/MLA court in Lucknow. He sought suspension of the conviction order, while the state counsel opposed the application.

The court, after considering the matter, decided to suspend Babbar’s conviction during the pendency of the application.
